I will give you an example of how demographics can sometimes effect an economy of a particular area.

1. Pizza deliveries in a college town have  10,000 orders of pizza during the school year. During the summer many students return home for the summer or travel which results in a decrease of pizza delivery sales in the town. Because the pizza's main buyers (college students) have left for the summer the pizza market in that area will be effected. In this case young people between the ages of 18 and 25 would be the demographic which effected the pizza industry.
