  1. There are many ways to do it:

    * A private driving school

    * A public school program (usually for a fee)

    * A curriculum for it, such as "Driver Education in a Box":

    Most local HS'ers I know have taken it through the public school.  However, the districts charged them *more* than a private driving school.  They also didn't like conforming to the PS schedule.  With a driving school, you can pretty much set your own schedule.

    EDITED TO ADD:  I didn't put in the "obvious" about parents, or other adults teaching you.  This will only allow you to get your driver's license.  If you want (really, it's your parents) an insurance discount, then you have to take a formal class.

  2. I am homeschooled and I took AAA driving classes, it was a cool driving class. It also heped me get a discount on my insurance.

  3. you could go to a summer class

    or you could take only Drivers Ed at your local school (that's what my one friend is doing)

  4. it  helps sthem by haveing a memeber they know help the. I think its better to be taught by some one you know more than someone you daont

  5. Your parents teach you.

    Or, you go to a summer class . . . or one of the driver's education places in a strip mall.

    You don't HAVE to take driver's educaton, by the way.

    It gets you a discount on your insurance, but parent-taught driver's education is considered the same thing if they document it.

  6. It doesn't. You must pay for private lessons.

  7. You don't have to take drivers ed, but I know in some states that if you do, you get your permit earlier. If that was important, than I'd hire a private teacher to do so, there are schools all over the state that do teach.

    I plan on teaching my own kids to drive.

  8. you-go-to-public-school-you-still-pay-ta...

  9. Our kids can take it through the school system  without charge.   Our county was very accommodating.

    Our friends, in neighboring county, did not have a good experience with the public school.  The people they talked to were not informed and gave them bad information.  When the school did get correct information, they tried to make it difficult for the family to get driver's ed by sending them to a school at other side of county.   That family used a homeschool group for their training.  It was not free, but cheaper than private training.
