How does Economics prepare one for life? Also is it more important to understand the economy now or 20, 30, 50 years ago? I need resources to it too.

economics is at its root, the way of looking at a problem or a decision and consider all aspects of it not just the obvious ones. Life is nothing but decisions and problems.

Economics helps to make rational choices in life. This science is always developing and dynamic - so it changes together with society. You can use many sources from history of economics at example of US economy from last century.
