  1. Many MANY differences but these are the main ones:

In the first place it is a totally amateur game despite the incredible skill needed to play it.  Sometimes it is described as a cross between soccer and rugby but this is to miss the point.

You can pick the ball up and run for 3 paces before tipping it off your boot or passing it on.  Whereas in soccer you can't touch the ball with your hand at all.

The ball can be kicked over the bar for 1 point or past the goal keeper into the net-for a goal (worth 3 points).

There are 15 players on each team.

A lot more physical contact between players is allowed.

Every county in Ireland enters the all Ireland senior football championship the final of which is played in Croke Park every Sept in front of 89,000 people.

I think that covers the basics!  The season is just about over now but you'll be able to follow it next year.

  2. Again excellent answer from Charlott C-t o expand on it. To pass the ball between players the ball may be punched or kicked never thrown!!!

when taking the ball from the ground you cannot simply lift it from the ground you need to roll it onto your foot first (this wasn't necessary fro girls when I played-I don't know why??)
