  1. it re-introduces electrolytes into your system, where water just rehydrate's.

  2. Gatorade and other sports drinks only out perform water when you have been exerting yourself. When exercising and playing sports you loose more than just water so you need the extra stuff that is put into sports drinks to replenish you.

However, for normal activities, working, or school gatorade does not outperform water and is not needed at all. Too many people drink it when it is not needed. In that case they are wasting money and consuming extra calories that they don't need.

  3. Gatorade outperforms water in the profit percentage it creates for it's manufacturers, distributors and retailers.

It also provides more advertising contracts for professional athletes than water.

  4. gatorade doesn't necessarily "outperform" water. On most every occasion drinking water is more beneficial to your body than gatorade is. However, when you work out intensly, gatorade can help your body recover and feel better quickly by introducing electrolytes as well as hydrating salts into your system. This is done because when the body under goes extreme work outs, it loses the salts needed to regulate and maintain a healthy balance. Bottum line, stick to water most of the time.

  5. Gatorade outperforms water because water doesn't have electrolytes in it.  You normally get your electrolytes from food.  But in sporting Gatorade can rehydrate you and replenish your electrolytes plus it can give you a boost with the extra sugar.
