BAGHDAD - Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki said Monday no security agreement with the United States could be reached unless it included a "specific deadline" for the withdrawal of all American troops from Iraq.

  1. Read the whole thing and other stuff

They want us to have a presence after we "Leave"

While we're at it lets remove all the troop anb bases from Japan, Germany, England--absolutly no reason to be there either

  2. Well that is too bad for iraq. let them pay us back for liberating and we could just think about it. We will keep a base there whether they like it or not.McCain is right on this one. Iraqi rich and iran are the most ignorant arrogant people on this earth.

  3. He will just flip flop again, it's no big deal to him.

  4. It may disappoint him but there are many other wars which he can continue or start, Afghanistan, Iran and possibly Russia. So there's plenty of dirty work for him to do.

  5. The Status of Forces Agreement is a collaborative agreement that, to my understanding, has US troop withdrawal predicated on the ability of the country to secure and protect itself.  I don't believe McCain has ever insisted on troops remaining indefinitely (or for 100 years as has frequently been taken out of context).

  6. Whether or not combat troops are removed is totally discrete from the fact that we will have a very large US base and thus presence in Iraq for many years to come.

    _____

I think you will find that the Iraqis (as well as the US) merely want US troops removed from combat and internal  security missions in Iraq.  However, the Iraqis will want the US to continue to offer protection to their country and would be willing to collect the billion dollar payments we make to keep US bases on foreign soil
