  3. I am not trying to sound gross.  But most large animals, elephants, whales, etc are cut into sections.  Depending on the "section" it will either be sent in for a necropsy (to see why it died), to a local college/university for study, cremated or buried.

    I will not say what animal but we had a large animal that died a few years ago.  It died of old age so there was no need for a necropsy, but some sections (i think heart/lungs/liver/some bone) were sent to the local university for the vet students to work on.  We saved its skull and the rest was cut up and laid to rest in the ground.
