How does Sprite or 7up help when one is sick?

When I was a child my parents would give me flat 7up or Sprite, especially when i had a cold or upset stomach. How does this help?

Interesting comment about the ginger ale.  That's what my folks would use too.

Maybe some soda or other beverage with some slices of ginger in it.

There's nothing in either to help a sick stomach.

A dash of lemon-lime, carbon dioxide, and a ton of sugar.

Just drink plain water. It's much better for you.

the bubbles helped. idk how but it works.

I believe in this l00% and use it whenever I have a problem with a bad stomach.  I think that the bubbles in the pop gets rid of the bad gas that is in your stomach and with that you have relief.

Sprite and 7 up do not "help" a sick tummy they have no medicinal properties

that being said sometimes drinking clear fluids and not eating helps most clear fluids are easy on the tummy.

so in some cases that is enough help on it's own

just like eating soda crackers and dry toast

different things work for different people

ginger helps

most use flat ginger ale

or ginger tea

or mint tea

there are a few others that can help

It doesn't. Way back when ginger ale actually had some ginger in it, it could help soothe your stomach some. Somehow, that got conflated to soda in general and 99% of ginger ale doesn't have ginger in it anymore either.
