How does Statutory Sick Pay Work?

I was recently off sick for two weeks and am due to get paid for the month next week. What I want to know is does Statutory Sick Pay replace the normal monthly wage or not?

  1. .   Yes, it replaces it.  You don't get paid double.


  2. If you are off work sick for more than 3 days the State pays you a paultry amount... thats one of the reasons you pay NIC contributions. Usually the Employer includes it in your wages and claims it back from the PAYE they pay the Tax Man. Many big employers will top up the amount the state pays you and so you dont lose any earnings, they may pay the first few days as well.
