I know that in the states you have a emt basic and then you have the the emt paramedic who has more training. But i was wondering how it works in Canada. Is it the same as in the States?

  1. Depends on where you live. In Ontario there is no EMT-B. We use Level I, II, III.

Level I (Primary Care) Give 5 SR drugs, semi-automated defib, IV`s, BTLS, BCLS.

Leve II do mostly the same things as PCP`s with a few more drugs.

Level III (Advanced Care) are the sames as EMT-Paramedic. They do all the advanced airways (tubes), ACLS, Manual defib, tons of meds, Narc`s for pain, all that Jazz

There is also Critical Care but they`re pretty much limited to critical transfers and the helicopter.

You have to go the college for Level I before you can move up to ACP or higher
