How does USPS work for international shipping?

I bought an item from ebay , and the seller has told me that it will be shipped via USPS International Airmail and it would take7-12 days to get to Australia. Now my question is what happens if I am not at home ? Do they leave a slip to pick it up from post office or leave it at the door ? Thanks for your help

You would need to ask your Australian Postal Administration about that. Each country has its own rules and regulations. So, even though I could tell you what USPS does, that may not be what happens in Australia.
