Question:

How does Vascultis cause joint problems? (and what joint promblems do they cause?)?

........I assume that all the dif types (kawasaki/giant cell/churg strauss etc) all have a common mechanism of affecting the joint - is this correct?

Takayasau's, giant cell, Kawasaki, polyarteritis nodosa, Wegener's granulomatosis, Henoch-Schonlein purpura, and microscopic polyangiitis are all types of vasculitis.  The latin broken down basically means an inflammation of the blood vessels.  This having been stated, the areas infiltrated by the specific blood vessels effected by these individual diseases also become inflamed.  So the type of vasculitis the patient has will determine whether or not the joints become inflamed.  Unlike usual inflammation, this cannot be treated with steroids like prednisone or NSAIDs like Motrin.  They give IVIG (IV immune globulin) to prevent further complications.
