How does Wi Fi in the Wii work?

Does it connect automatically or does it need to be close to the computer ?

You have to configurate your Wii WiFi setting in order to connect your Wii to the internet. The configurationg/setting is in the Wii Option menu which can be access via main screen (i.e. the screen when you first turn your Wii on and where you can select the game to play).

It does not need to be near the computer, but it needs to be near the access point of your internet if you wnat to connect your Wii Wirelessly.

It connect automatically, it is just the farther away less of a signal but still it won't effect or game play.

It has to be close to your wireless access point, and properly confugured to bypass any encryption passwords that may (And should) be in place.

Most wireless access points can connect a device about 30-50 feet away, so if it's in the same room or a room away, you should be fine.
