I am just curious, my puppy is a Beagle/Basset hound mix and she usually has a whinney kind of bark but the other day some people went past our house riding horses and she started barking like Aroo, Aroo, Aroooooooo LOL. I have had people tell me beagles have the most annoying bark and I had one lady tell me beagles have the best bark and Bassets have the second best bark. I was just curious if they have different sounding barks or if hounds all have the same kind. I know it doesn't matter its my dogs bark no matter what but I am just wondering. Thanks!

  1. They bark alooooot.. I swear. Beagles have a beautiful bark. But I also had a beagle who sounded like a squeaker toy when he barked. It differs on the dog mostly.

  2. Beagles and Bassets both bark and howl!  That's what makes their vocals so unique.  Bassets tend to be a little lower in pitch, but mostly, they're quite similar.  When she "rooed" it was all about her howl!  She is still capable of a normal alarm style bark :-).

  3. LOL- the arooooo is definitely Bassett. Beagles usually have a higher pitched bark with a bit of howl in there but Basset definitely have the aroo sound that is usually deep toned.

  4. Beagles and Bassets have the same type of bark often know as the Bay. its a Hound trait. Each dog of each breed has a little different type of bay, its a GOOD thing if you are hunting them you are able to distinguish who has found the quarry. Its normal and if you like it, then its beautiful. IF you hate it, it can be the MOST annoying thing you ever heard. Its all about preference.
