Question:

How does a Canadian go about purchasing a US bred parrot?

From what I've read, provided the bird has been in my possession for 90 days, and I sign a paper stating such, I can simply cross the border.

What I want to do is have a bird shipped from CA to NY, pick it up at the NY airport, and then drive over the border (much easier I would imagine than trying to fly it over the border).

Surely there is an easier method than going through CITES paperwork given that these birds are captive bred freely in both the US and Canada.

Specifically, I am trying to fly over an adult Yellow Naped Amazon and a young Blue Fronted Amazon.

Any suggestions? And no, I will not do anything illegal. It must be legit.

  1. same thing ask a vet

  2. It's a pain with paperwork either way you do it. Here's a link stating pretty much specifically what you have to do, and what forms you have to fill out, etc. Since you won't have had the bird for 90 days (they usually want some proof) you'll need to fill out additional forms.
