How does a DSL connection come into an apartment?

My room mate just ordered AT&T High Speed DSL for our apartment, but we don't have a phone line. We are getting a modem to hook up, but how does the DSL feed get into the apartment? Do we plug into the phone jacks in the apartment, or is there somewhere/something else?

  1. If the company didnt supply a phone line, it may comr through the cable connection. Call At&t and find out

  2. It comes in as a phone line. The installer will hook it to an existing jack.

They send you a kit with a modem and filters, cable, setup instructions etc.  Follow the instructions carefully and you shouldn't have a problem.

  3. It should just plug right into a phone jack.  The DSL comes into the apartment over the phone lines.  Not having phone service shouldn't be a problem but if you actually don't have a phone line coming from the telephone pole on the street to your apartment then that could be a problem.  I would think the phone company would have caught on to that though when your room mate ordered the DSL.

  4. OK. On the back of the modem there is a place where you plug the powerpack of the modem into the wall. Do that. Now, there is one jack for a normal phone wire. Take a phone wire and plug one end into the back of the modem and plug the other end into the phone jack in your appartment's wall. Then there is at least one jack for an ethernet cable which is thicker than a phone cable. Plug one end of a wire into the ethernet jack of the modem. The other end goes into the back of the computer. Then Open internet explorer on your computer. Sign up for your AT&T Yahoo! Mail. Then you're good to go so start surfing the web like crazy!!!!!!
