I know US citizens get to travel to Puerto Rico without a passport...but do Puerto Ricans need them for the US?

Also a bit more info if you guys could add it in...

Would you guys be up for telling me around how much a ticket from Puerto Rico from california might be, roughly? Like, a ballpark?

(situation is...I know a girl in puerto rico that wants to go with me to Blizzcon '08 in california but she's utterly broke...i want to guesstimate how much the whole thing would be!)

If you guys can at least point me in the right direction to go look in for website or what not, I'd appreciate that to. Can anyone help me??

  1. Puertorricans are US citizens.  The same rules to travel within USA applicable to any US citizen apply to us.  Then, until Homeland Security, the FAA or any other agency with authority on the subject, change the requirements for domestic flights, passports are not required to travel between USA states / territories and PR which is another USA organized and un-incorpored territory (for all practical purposes a colony) of the USA.

Cost of air travel between PR and California?

Check Travelocity or any other website like that and check.  Use SJU as the airport code for our Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport, located in Carolina PR.  Probably you will have to make a stop in Atlanta or in Texas before reaching California.  I think there are no direct flights between SJU and Los Angeles or San Francisco.

  2. Puerto Rico is a US territory, therefore all citizens of Puerto Rico are US citizens and do not need a passport to travel to the US mainland. They do need the proper identification that any other US citizen would need if traveling by plane.

There are many travel websites that can give you costs for air fare and hotels, such as Orbitz, Expedia, Travelocity, etc..., and Blizzcon has a web site (blizzard.com) that gives you ticket prices and travel info.

  3. Puerto Ricans are US citizens. (yup since 1917) SO she can come with just a puerto rican drivers license or PR ID. But yes its always a good idea to bring a copy of her birth certificate.

So I went on travelation & looked up tickets.  From SJU (san juan airport) to LAX from 10/7 -10/14 she can get a ticket for $318 + tax (which will come to more than $350) & she will need to make 1 stop. Orbitz is also a good site for airfare. Goodluck

  4. Puerto Ricans may freely travel to and from the U.S. because they are U.S. citizens.  Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory.  The cost for a round trip to Claifornia may be close to $1000, but you can find specials on Expedia and other sites.

  5. there are these websites

    1 onetravel.com

    2 smartfare.com

    3 lowfare.com

These are the only ones that i think are cheapest for airfares so check them out

  6. No we don't need passports to go to the US because were american citizens.

Im in Puerto Rico right now and I came from LA, California =]

and my ticket was $536 but i bought it 2 months in advance

if you buy a ticket at the last minute it could be as expensive as $1,200 and i dont think you'd want that

  7. i don't know if you don't but we are american citizien also ( all boricuas) read history of Puerto RIco. we are US citizien and we don't need passport to travel to US. only an photo ID. check for the airlines in US, american, continental, spirit, delta, etc. the code of airport of san juan is SJU and los angeles, CA, LAX.

  8. Puertoricans became US citizens in 1917. Since then, we are just like anyone born in Texas or New York or whichever state. Just like Alaskans and Hawaiians travel to the US, we do to.  So no need to worry about any paperwork, although airlines are requiring some sort of id to travel.

As for a plane ticket, I'd say to California from PR it could cost you close to $800 - $1000 depending on when you buy the ticket. Try www.vazquezmall.com and go to the travel section. You'll be able to compare prices through Travelocity.

If you're going to PR, stay there a week and visit all the beaches. You'll have a blast!

  9. Better plan for $2000 or more just for transportation and she really should get a passport but she needs to prove she is FROM Puerto Rico... so an original or certified copy of her birth certificate will be necessary.

  10. puerto ricans dont need a passport to travel from US to PR or from PR to the US. The whole trip could come out at 2000 or more. I suggest that if you dont know this girl, make sure you do. I dont know if you are an American citizen, but I know there is a lot of conpeople who say they are puerto ricans and they might be from another country. some illegal (not from PR) woman and men use those strategies to get transported with an American to the US and they may desguise themselves as puerto ricans (usually dominicans do this a lot in PR).

If she is truly a puerto rican, be careful as well, for some latin girls say they are broke to live from others and leave u broke. be careful.

  11. The BEST website for airline travel is www.sidestep.com

This site searches expedia, travelocity, orbitz, cheaptickets, and all individual airlines so you don't have to search each checking prices.

The price of the ticket will depend on time of year, day of the week, & how early you book the ticket.  Tuesdays are typically going to be the cheapest travel day & Wednesdays are usually the 2nd cheapest day of the week to fly.  You should book at least 3 months in advance for the best price chances.  And avoid holiday travel weekends.

Also, it's going to depend on where in Califorina she lands at.  Bigger airports like LA or San Francisco are going to be cheaper.

To answer your estimate question:  I checked on the website listed and saw flights for as cheap as 400 going from San Juan, PR to LA.  But without more detail about cities it's hard to give anymore of an estimate.

  12. Puerto Ricans are US citizens so they do not need anything to come back and forth other than normal ID

as far as the price try expedia.com
