How does a bail bondsman earn money?

I know that they bail con's from prison but how do they actually earn cash from doing so?

You only pay a percentage of your total bond to the bondsman. Provided that you go to court as directed until completion, the bondsman keeps the money you gave him. Now, if you do not go to court as directed. The state will go after the bondsman for the total amount owed and the bondsman will go after the signer of the bond.
