How does a bank usually return a direct deposit? ?

It's almost been a week, and payroll still hasn't received it

  1. The real question is when do they return it and the answer is one day. They have one day to post it or return it. Your payrolldepartment should have asked to have a trace put on it by the third day.  


  2. A bank will return the Deposit to the sender. Make sure the sender has the correct routing number and account number. Also make sure the name on the deposit is also on the account. In other words, if I am the only name on a bank account and I have Joe Smith's deposit come electronically to my account it will probably be sent back by the bank because only the account holder can receive deposits to that account. Check with the sender's accounting department, if it was sent back by your bank it would have been redeposited into the senders account that it came from. The senders accounting dept can see it redeposited in the account. Check all of your information with the sender to make sure it is correct.
