On my car selector cable selects fork and shifter goes up and down for 1-2 3-4 both up for reverse and both down for 5th.

How would a six speed select the extra 6th gear using this configeration?

  1. six speeds use same mechanical configuration as 5 speeds, but with the 6 speed reverse is usually entered into via pushing down on the shifter or pulling up on a ring the moves the gear assembly up or down into reverse.
