With many number of horses in the race which is finished hardly in a minute or two, I wonder, how can he name the horses in an order so correctly with great excitment. Any assistance from others and what factors hepl him during the race?

  1. Jockey silks, blanket number

Trevor Denman is the Best Horse caller in the world.

    And huh way they go.

  2. Knowledge & Experience nothing else

  3. To be a good race caller, you have to have an excellent "short term memory".  You have to be able to memorize 12-14 names, along with corresponding numbers, and then forget them all five minutes later.

There is one announcer at an Australian track who, for five minutes before the race, just says names of horses over the PA system while the horses are warming up and galloping toward the gates.  It sounds nutty, but he is looking at each horse and saying the name so he will remember it during the race.  Other announcers do the same thing, but without the mike turned on.

  4. Jockey's silks, blanket numbers, and type, color, and number of the horse's bridle. This is why racehorses wear white bridles- to make their heads easier to see and identify, for the announcers, the fans, and the stewards, who must be able to identify horses so that they can enforce the rules of racing and make the sport fair to everyone who participates.

  5. these guys are around horses and jockeys, trainers etc every day. an experienced commentator can visually recognise jockeys and even horses in much the same way as you would recognise say your own work colleagues for example. also they have a race-card in front of them but i doubt they need it,unless perhaps it is a maiden race or an apprentice jockeys race.

  6. the saddle cloth by color (therefore number) and the jocks silks...I agree that Trevor is definitely one of the best and that ed burgart who calls quarters at los al is great also and a very good handicapper...
