  1. it has an insulated tank and a thermostat that keeps the water at 180 degrees F. When the button is pushed to brew a pot of coffee.  fresh water from a hard water line displaces the hot water( like your hot water heater at home)  from the holding tank to the coffee filter basket. The coffee tastes better because of the higher temperature at which the coffee is brewed.
