  1. Most of these new bulbs - and I am assuming that you are referring to the CFLs - are NOT compatible with dimmers.  Don't go there unless you have a bulb that specifically claims that it can be used with a dimmer.


  2. You have to buy one that is dimmer compatible.  They are available.

  3. Hi I just changed all my light bulbs to energy efficient (moving house) and the dimmers do NOT work any more.

  4. You have to use dimmable CFLs.  They cost about US$11.00 each (at least at Home Depot).  They do work, but the range of brightness is less than with the old incandescent bulbs.  Also, they do not change color as you dim them, but remain white.

    And you get extra points for knowing the difference between affect and effect.
