I live in an older house, and want to redo my floors. How do floor leveling compounds work, and do I have to be careful with the added load they would put on my existing floor?

  1. There should not be much added load.  They are just used to fill in holes and low spots in the underlayment of your floor.  It's not something you want to pour over the entire floor...just use it to patch the bad places.  I can't imagine using more than a couple of gallons in an entire house, and that shouldn't weigh more than 25 pounds total.
