Question:

How does a foil helium balloon hold up in rain?

Maybe a science expert would know this. Can a foil helium balloon hold up in the rain(staying afloat) and would it stay up in temps in the mid 60s? Tomorrow is my dad’s birthday and me and my husband want to decorate the lawn with foil helium balloons so when he wakes up, he sees a sea of balloons. It just its supposed to rain and I wanted to see if they will be ruined when he gets up by the rain or if the 60+ temp would shrink them at all

Thanks!

  1. Most balloon cannot take a strong down draft, so it will all depend on the size of the balloon and how strong is the down draft.

Just realise them as soon as he wakes up and ready to look out side.

Store them in doors. But must understand all balloons leak, and they do have sat life.

Temperature will play some roll but it depend on the difference in the temperature.

  2. the rain won't be a problem, foil is tough, however the temperature is what you have to be worry about cold air will make the balloons deflate, mid 60's should be ok especially if in a sunny spot goodluck

  3. Well for starters they are called Mylar balloons they will hold helium longer than regular latex balloons, but with temperature dropping they will loose helium because when it gets cooler the helium molecules shrink making the balloon shrink but when it gets warmer the molecules expand thus making the balloon the normal size and shape again, but be careful they are foil so they can conduct electricity not enough to harm someone but still don't get struck by lightening, and they should be fine at a temperature of 60-up so have a great party.
