  1. There are no rules to be a professional. However, there are many specific rules to being an amateur.  So it comes down to- you're either an amateur or not an amateur.  Give your buddy a lesson for money.  You're not an amateur anymore.  Fork over about 1000 bucks to play in a mini-tour event.  Oops! There goes your amateur status.  It's actually much easier to be a pro than an amateur.  Being a successful professional?   Thats a different story!!

  2. when he / she begins accepting dollars

    Good Luck!

  4. Have a handicap of below 4, you can then train to be a teaching pro,

If you want to join the tours you need to go to tour school europe or Q school usa

  5. I assume that you're referring to becoming a playing pro..

The easiest way to do it is -- when entering a tournament that has cash prizes -- declare yourself to be a professional. There are a lot of mini-tours out there that will allow you to play for cash if you can pony up the entry fee.

To get to the PGA Tour, however, you're going to need to go through Q School.
