With a sale of a home in Mexico, did you have to pay tax there for the sale? There are foreign tax credits which can ofset that if you paid it there.

In general, I would file a schedule D, and report it as a capital gains tax.

You should definalty have an Escrow, either here in the USA or at least in Mexico and the Escrow can wire the money to your bank here in the USA.
