How does a natural spring work?

I just visited the Ichetucknee River Natural Park in Florida. I am curious how does a natural spring work? Where is the water coming from why was it so cold??? I cannot locate any information online and I'm just curious.

  1. Rain water seeps into the ground and accumulates in caves or other spaces in the rock.  A spring is an opening from a cave that has a water level higher than the level of the spring, so the water is forced out through it.  The water is cold because it's stored deep enough underground that it isn't warmed by the sun.  Most deep caves have a temperature of around 60 degrees fahrenheit.
