How does a paper drive work as a fund raiser for a school?

Trying to come up with more creative ideas for helping a low-income school with very few ways to bring in extra income. I'm already going to start a Boxtops and Campbell's Soup Label collection and handle all of that. I've heard people talking about paper drives for fundraising. What kinds of paper? Only newspaper? Where do you take that for cash?

  1. What you need to do is to look up Recycling Centers in your local phone book and talk to them to see if they can give you the details of how to do a paper drive (it is similar to collecting aluminum cans and exchanging them for cash...they usually pay by the pound or ton, depending upon if it is paper, aluminum or what).

You might also consider holding a car wash on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon or maybe a bake sale.  What about having a school dance in the school's gym <all money collected goes to support the school>.  You could also try contacting some of the local businesses in the area and see if they would be willing to donate something <they get to take an income tax write-off at the end of the year> and your school could hold a raffle or silent auction (contact the managers and owners of local businesses to see if they would be willing to donate something and you set a starting bid and a date of when the bidding would stop and the money you collect goes to the school and whatever the item is that is donated by the business gets to be a tax deduction at the end of the year.)  What about a themed dress-up day and anyone who participates pays $1?

    Be CREATIVE!

    Good Luck.
