  1. Some scents are deemed more "feminine," such as florals, while others are considered more masculine, such as sandalwood. This is based solely on perception.

There are many scents that are considered appropriate for both sexes, however, such as citrus, patchouli, musk, or "food" scents (vanilla, caramel, chocolate.)

  2. Men's is usually stronger.

  3. I've noticed that women's perfume tends to smell sweeter, fruitier, or flowery while men's perfume is harsher, muskier, and stronger smelling. Some men's perfumes can literally clear out my sinuses when I get a whiff of them.

  4. Whatever scent causes you to be noticed by the s*x you're trying to attract is the one you want. Certain scents attract women, others attract men. It is largely culturally derived.

  5. It's just association. Pine, 'aqua', woody and spicey smells are more masculine and fruity, sweet smells are more female. I usually wear lynx with joop for men and people always compliment me on my lovely perfume.
