How does a person become possessed?

Most sources say that it is another spirit entering a person's body and taking control. But why do some people have this happen and other's don't? How is it possible to have two spirits in the same body at once? Or does the person's spirit go somewhere else during that time? How can a spirit even enter a person's body at all?

When someone is possessed the devil enters their body. You could say that persons soul was "pushed aside" and the devil is in control.

I don't really know, I've been told that when you drink alcohol excessively you are opening yourself up to demons. But that could just be because people tend to be meaner when they are drinking?

It is when the person is so weak emotionally. Kinda vulnerable, which makes it easy target for the spirits or the devil to enter into their body and take control since the person is so weak.

well, my church teacher told me its for people who dont have faith in God. You cant be scared of anything but God. and so the devil enters your body. everytime you are doing something bad..its like the devil telling you to do that and you agree with him. think of it as your conciens [spelled wrong] the devil and angel on your shoulder. but beig possesed is a diffrenet story.

Hm.  There are two different forms of this:  Voluntary and Involuntary.

Examples of Voluntary are:

a) Voodoo Ceremony

b) Christian Ecstatic Services

c) Spiritualist and/or Mediumistic

Involuntary Possession (in which a human is "invaded" by a

non-benign disembodied intelligence) can occur when one has

become intoxicated (in one way or another) and has subject

themselves to other stimuli (such as reading grimories while

"stoned" and drunk).

The "normal" and natural shielding that the human aura has and

produces is weakened, and in some cases a vortex or Portal is

created.  

Children's "bodies of light" are not so strong as adults...and so they

are a bit more easily subject to possession.

Severe illness can weaken an aura sufficiently to allow someone to

become possessed as well.  The Native Americans call the Spirit of

the Flu "The Red Man" due to its humanoid appearance.  It is said

to visit certain parties who are overcome by the illness.  But to what

end, no one (not even the medicine men) know.

Possesion happens to those who are more spiritually inclined, like they are more sensitive, whether they realize it or not.  They may be weak to the power of a spirit, and that is how the spirit can get in.  The persons soul or spirit is in the body, but is being dominated by the other spirit/s It is possible for there to be more than one spirit in someone.  Its possible because the human body is nothing more than a container, it holds our souls, but it isnt who we really are.  For some we are merely human with human souls, others are different beings. The human body can hold many different beings, so it makes sense that it can hold more than one.

As with most myths, demonic/ghostly possession doesn't make a lot of sense from a logical point-of-view.  Two spirits in one body seems hard to believe.  I always had trouble with the divinity of Christ - how could be be all man and all God?  I remember my Sunday School teacher getting upset when I asked if he was a demi-god.

As I understand it, those who believe in possession feel that the human body is just a vessel that's capable of hosting any number of spirits (a legion of them in some cases.)  The human host is usually subverted by a much stronger entity.  

However, it's worth noting that the origin of saying "God bless you" when you sneeze is in response to a belief that a sneeze expels evil spirits from the body.  Thus, in this belief, the spirits are there in all of us, but much too weak to be noticed.

Simple: a bottle of whisky drunk. Or some heavy uses of certain drugs like LSD or others, Maybe prozac, more than the prescribed doses,  could help. And presto: you are "possessed". Devil entering your body? Phony balony!
