Question:

How does a projection microscope work?

Sometimes you see these microscopes in which the images are not directed to the lens of an eyepiece, but rather to a relatively large screen attached to the microscope. What optical tricks must be played to get the tiny image you would usually see in an eyepiece expanded to a much larger screen?

  1. There aren't any real tricks, you just blow the image up with lenses just as you would with a regular projector. You can also split the beam and have an image in the eyepieces as well as an image on the wall for demonstrating what students should be looking at.
