How does a "press" in golf match play work?

Depends on what you agree on with your opponent at the first tee but usually if you are playing match play and you are closed out in the first match, then you start a second match for the remainder of holes to try to get even.  But some will allow a press by anyone that is 2 holes down, so you could press long before you were closed out and might have several matches going by the end of the 18 holes.  It would not make sense to conceed a match (and a bet) if you were not closed out in that match.
