Well i have an assesment tomorrow for a recruitment company and will be given a job spec and five different cv's which i have to screen to choose the best candidates. I have been told that this is not just an exercise and will be the real deal. I will have to contact the candidates. Any tips on what i have to say?

  1. Ok, You will have the job spec and it will list the skills the job requires.

    Go through the CVs pick the strongest matches, the ones where as much as possible matches the spec. You don't want to waste the employers time by sending them totally unsuitable people.

    You then phone the candidate;

    "Hi, am I speaking to.....? This is ...... here from .......  Are you able to speak right now?  (many people will be at work, ask this to ensure they can speak properly to you). Are you still looking for work only a  position has just come in which I think you are perfect for. Its based in ........, would you like to hear more about it?".

    You can then go on to tell them what industry its in, where abouts, hours, rate of pay (don't forget the agency mark-up, make sure you are telling them the correct rate).

    "What do you think.  Is it something you'd to be put forward for?"

    Assuming they say yes.

    "That's great news.  I just want to check your CV is totally up to date. Are you still working at xxxxx, how much notice would you require for an interview and would it be 4 weeks notice you'd have to give if you were successful?".

    "I'll send your CV across to them now and I'll keep you informed of anything I hear back - hopefully when we speak next it'll be to arrange an interview!".

    Or words to that effect.
