  2. With the wind right behind it gets blown along.

    With the wind to the side or at an angle to the front it uses the air passing between its two sails to create lift (like an airplane but on its side!) to suck the boat along.

    The skill is being able to sail as close to the wind as possible (being able to get the front close towards the direction of the wind).

  4. called Tacking. combination of angle of sail to the wind and sail to the boat. you cannot move directly opposite the direction of the wind, but if you combine movements at an angle to the wind, you get a resultant direction of travel opposite the wind.
