  1. they transfer water in the boat to diffrent tanks called ballasts to keep the boat level befor they atarted useing those it was common for boats to capsize under adfverse conditions high waves, rageing wind exc.....

  2. Ships have stability computers to calculate stability for loading, unloading and for ocean voyages.   The stability plans and calculations are checked by the classification society that the ship is registered by.   The center of gravity is dependand on the draft of the vessel.  Typically it will move aft the deeper the vessel is in draft.

  3. Ballast on the inside (water tanks or lead chunks), put even weight on port and star side of the boats.

The keel, (fin or long) on the bottom of the boat adds the resistance to the water from the outside.

The center of gravity is often below the waterline, or as low as possibly above the water line, otherwise the boat would roll on the slightest wind.

  4. The simple answer is this.

Boats and ships have a center of gravity and a center of buoyancy.

If the center of buoyancy is above the center of gravity the ship/boat will remain upright.

The further the two are apart, the more stable the vessel will be.

Sailboats have another complication thrown in and that is the sum of the forces acting on the sail, called the center of effort, and the center of lateral resistance from the underwater profile.

  5. ship is basically a body that it is consist of two portion.sold body of ship plus the space that is inside of body.therefore we have a substance that has a huge volume but doesn't have vast mass and its density (space+rigid body)is lower than water,s density therefore ship remain above of water.ships should have a symetry of mass diffusion in two side of body.it obtain by balanse water .balanse water goes into ship or go out by pumps.

  6. Ballast tanks in the ship keeps the boat steady. By adding or removing water from one side of the ballast tanks to the other will keep the boat rocking from side to side as much.
