  2. Judge is right, it's to do with specific gravity and volume, the hydrometer would displace the same volume but would have to move further with a smaller capillary hence a different scale can be applied with more graduations making it more accurate.

  3. I don't know what it is you are talking about, but I can tell you that the smaller diameter will give an increased or decreased pressure therefore the reading will be distorted.

  4. The smaller diameter will make the liquid in the hydrometer rise or fall further as it takes up the space available.

    This means a scale with smaller intervals can be applied.
