i have a bank card, with a checking account. I wanted to purchase something online through debit, but i do not have enough money in my account and i do not want them to charge me an overdraft fee. I wanted to use the credit portion of it..(cause it sais visa on it i'm assuming that i can use it as a credit card)..how does this work? will they let me use it as credit so that i can pay them back when they send the bill..or is this not possible? or do i have to have the amount that i am trying to spend in my checking account in order to use the credit, help please. thanks!

  1. If this is a Visa Debit Card, you should be able to use as a credit card (non pin)  and debit card (pin transactions)

The only difference is the credit part, you can only use what is available on your bank account.

If you do not have an overdraft facility you won't be able to use what you don't have- you should check you limits, some banks might have small overdraft for their customers for situations like these ^^

  2. visa debit card isnt a credit card.

its only allows you to use the money in your bank so youll have to use some from your cheque account or take some overdraft. the fact that it says visa just lets you use it where visa is accepted

    =) hope it helps

  3. A debit card doesn't become a credit card -- it only uses the VISA or MasterCard systems to verify and transfer funds.  If you want to buy something you don't currently have the cash for, you will need to apply for credit.  Many larger stores do offer "instant" credit (though usually on horrible terms, as they make a good bit of money from this).
