advertising merely plays on our wants. mirroring and at some point of suggestibility - fuels our needs to meet capitalistic ends.

advertising does not influence nor drives society - because among the cardinal rules of advertising is to listen and speak the language of the time. thus, it is very little that advertising innovates because it merely mirrors back the genre of our society and add a sense of flare and flamboyance in it.

though at times, because of sending message to right medium towards the right marketing in exactly appropriate time - advertising can tip-off a change in culture or a fad or craze. it is so powerful enough to change perspectives, mores, and even value systems. but then again if you'll analyze it closely there are two variables involved - the medium and the message.
