  1. It - or rather they - the big corporations - control what they want us to eat, how they want us to feel, grow, progress. They are in the business for their short term profits, not our health, and don't let the commercials fool you into thinking otherwise.

For some good information on the topic, look up Michael Pollan. I just finished one of his books "In Defense of Food". He also wrote a very revealing article titled "Power Steer.

  2. The answer is mathematical ( whatever i know about the economics)

We have a demand of some quantity of food say X kgs.

If we produce X kgs, we consume the whole of it.

If we produce more than X kgs, we sell to other countries and earn profit, money which can be used for development of other fields ( Education, defense, infrastructure, sports etc etc)

If we produce less than X kgs, we buy from other countries, we spend money in doing so, which could have had been used for other fields as mentioned above.

  3. They supply our foods and products that we use and buy.  Everything from meat, produce, timber, leather, land management, gardening and all sorts of things in between are all related to it and have impacts into everyones daily lives.

Without agribusiness we would all be hungry and naked :(
