Why does World Meteorological Organization (WMO) have to use people's names above everything when they could name them something like hurricane Ignite or hurricane Ostrich? Do they mean something by that or What??

  1. The names of tropical storms/hurricanes/typhoons etc. are all pre-decided and agreed upon by the World Meteorological Organization.  The practice of assigning people's names to these systems dates back over 60 years.  Once a particular named system causes significant damage or becomes particularly strong, it's name is retired.  There will never again be a Katrina, or Mitch, or Gilbert, or a host of many other names.

You can find these lists here: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/aboutnames.shtml

  2. They probably feel very powerful. Who would mess with them after that?

How would the ostriches feel then? Then need to number them, or make up words.

    Hurricane Baarippletip.
