How does an Enzyme know which amino acide to select?

  1. Some enzymes have charges, for example a negative charge, and the amino acid will have a positive charge. Other enzymes have little pockets that only a certain amino acid will fit into. Some enzymes have charged, hydrophobic (non-aqueous) regions that attract charged, hydrophobic acids. There are a bunch of ways they can find each other.


  2. Enzymes consist of amino acids.  They form tight relationships with substrates which "fit" most easility as the the "lock and key" hypothesis.
