I have followed my husband's job to a new town. Most people in the neighborhood seem to be going to work but I don't have a job yet and it may take me a while to get one that fits my experience.

Where do you meet people to make real friends when you don't know anyone in the area? We don't have children at home.

  1. find  a good church

  2. Go where the type of people you want to meet, hang out. If you like reading groups go to the library. If you like to experiment with recipes, take a cooking class. That type of stuff.

  3. Host a BBQ and invite neighbors,  join a charitable organization that is dear to your heart, attend community sporting events and functions....Most of all be personable.

  4. You could try doing an adult education class perhaps?  Or joining a sports club or gym or something like that?  Or volunteering to do some charity work?  In the Uk there are a lot of charity shops that are always wanting volunteers, I daresay you have something similar in the US?

  5. The best way for good ol fashioned person to person networking is to volunteer.  Look in the paper or on the net for local events that you may be into.  Whether it be the Obama campaingn or volunteering at the homeless shelter, reading books to grade school children, or getting involved in a multi-cultural organization -- there are many ways to meet people who share common interests.

  6. Volunteer.  Try volunteermatch.org.  The American Red Cross is in desperate need of people to help at their drives, and you may meet someone who can help you find a job.

  7. Try the internet,..or local cafe,park

  8. Go out and meet some people.
