  1. Glycolysis is an anaerobic process and works without oxygen. The pyruvate is converted to lactate or to acetic acid , ethanol, etc while still getting a modicum of ATP.Even in aerobic processes in our cells the glucose is first degraded to pyruvate which then enters the mitochondrion to participate via acetyl CoA in the Kreb's TCA Cycle and ultimately get ATP by oxidative phosphorylation.


  2. Nitrogen fixation.  The ATP is synthesised from organic compounds.
