  1. They will check both of your credit histories.  My girlfriend and I were in the same situation, and we applied for a house to rent in only her name.  It depends on how bad your credit is and what is ba oni it. (i.e. car repos look worse than old medical bills)

  2. it's important to speak with the landlord face to face, make a good impression. then the record won't matter as much (it'll still have an impact to a certain degree).

also i think if your credit is really bad, you need to come clean with the new landlord, and explain why that was, because he'll find out one way or another.

  3. If one person has bad credit they may reject your application.  If you have one signer, that signer needs to make 3 times the rent in one month.  You would need a co signer for the income requirements.

  4. Don't know what you mean by "I don't have great credit". If she has good credit and yours is bad, it may pay to have only her on the lease. However, the only way to tell is to apply for the apartment. They will run a credit check at that time and look at the fair isaac scores. There is usually a fee per person being checked. If her income is high enough to qualify for the apartment without factoring in your job, then you have no problem. Just go do it, that is the only way you will find out. Also, you can order a free credit report once a year from any of the three reporting agencies, so pull your own credit and see how bad it really is...good luck. Do you know your fair isaac scores?
