Question:

How does an eye doctor appt. for contacts go?

Tomorrow I'm going to my eye doctor to be "fitted" I guess you could say for contacts. What's are they going to do? Is there anything the doctor does to touch my eye that I can't do myself lol. I'm EXTREMELY finicky about other people touching my eye. (Even my friends trying to put eyeliner on me wont work, or eyedrops. I blink and like flutter my eyes lol) But I can do it by myself. And do they hurt when you first put them in?

Thanks!

  1. The doctor will put the contact in your eye for you first. I guess if you tell him you'd liek to try it on your own first, he'd let you. It'll feel like an eyelash in your eye for a second. But that feeling goes away. If it takes a while to put them in or take them out, it will be a little irritating, but they are really comfortable.

  2. They're just going to switch out some different circles of glass in front of your eyes and ask you which you can see out of better: "One, or two?" "Two." "Two, or three?" "Three." "Three or four?" "Three." "Three or five?"

Then they'll ask you some questions, you'll wait a while, and then they will take you to a room with a machine that you look into. A little green light in the center will go in and out of focus, and you just stare at it. They'll introduce you to the contacts and tell you how to put them in. You'll try them on and then take them out again.

However, at least for me, they had a cylinder-shaped thing (it was about and inch in diameter I think) with a little round pointer on the end that they touched your eye with a couple times. I think it was to see how much pressure your eye can take or something. I didn't even feel it at all.

The only reason they would hurt is if there's a piece of dust in it or the contact has a scratch. But rinsing the contacts will rinse off the dust, and in the case of a scratch, just open a fresh pack.

  3. I think if you explain to your doctor you're thing about not liking other people to be near your eyes like that, he'll explain you how to do it. With me, since I don't have that problem, he put my first pair in for me, then told me to go over to the mirror, take them out, and re-try myself. It's very hard to get them in yourself at first, but eventually, you'll get the hang of it and can pop both in within a minute. It will be very difficult at first, though. Sometimes, they hurt, sometimes they don't. It usually only hurts when I put mine in, if I've had the pair before them in a long time or if something irritates my eye beforehand. They're a burden at first, but you will soon get the hang of it and it's not a big deal. Good luck and if you explain your problem to your doctor then he'll explain to you step by step what to do and he should give you a peice of paper to take home with directions and he may watch you do it and critique you.

  4. the optometrist never actually touches your eye

    he just checks your vision

and he prescribes you the right power on your contacts

then an assisstant sits down with you and teaches you to put the lenses in

again, the assistant NOR the doctor ever touch your eye

only YOU will touch your eye

    its hard at first

but then you get used to it

trust me the first time i couldnt even get thee contacts into my eye they were like "come back 2 weeks later"

my eyes were so red. but now i can put both contacts in in under 10 seconds

    dont stress over it

  5. Just like a regular check-up. You try them on at the office, and they'll feel weird at first. Everything seems closer since the lens is now ON your eye instead of in front of it. When you look to the left and right, you don't see blurry vision from the glasses, now it's clear.

It's not all that bad. I started wearing mine about a year ago or so, and I never look back on it with a frown. Best decision I made.

They won't touch your eye, they won't even touch you at all. You'll be perfectly fine, just try not to be nervous because your stomach will ache and then you'll be uncomfortable. Don't worry! It's a happy moment! ^_^
