  1. From what I remember discussing in Anthropology class (I won't admin how many years ago that was!) - I believe opposable thumbs allowed for fine motor coordination.  The fine motor coordination skills developed certain parts of the brain  (I believe along the corpus collosum).  Over time, these areas of the brain became receptive for communication skills.

  2. The opposable thumb does not have a brain ! (Check your question)  It just helps us to easily handle our mobile phones.

  3. Uh, it's hard to see what role the opposable thumb plays here.

It's not just that our brain is larger, but that it has specialized centers for learning, processing, and generating language.

Think about all that we do with language, and how we use it.

  4. The longer, stronger thumb allows a precision grip (force between any finger tip & the thumb.)  Add this to the evolved wrist, appearing among the Homo erectus about 800,000 yrs ago, and you have the modern Homo sapien hand suitable for forming sophisticated tools & stitching skins together. The ability to hold something between thumb & fingers then strike it with something else (a rock) by using a snapping wrist motion, was a significant evolutionary step.

To date I've found nothing indicating the evolved hand led to language development, but one can hypothesize that it allowed for intricate motions & some form of sign language. The FoxP2 gene & location of the hyoid bone are thought to have led to the development of language.  However, the hand control part of the brain is located very close to the speech control part of the brain...?

  5. It means that homo sapiens can write "p**s Off" in big letters with a crayon. No gorilla can do that.

  6. The one thing that sets man apart is his ability to speak and be objective

Larger brains don't mean greater intelligence, intelligence is a survival instinct.

The ability for objective speech is unique to man on earth.
