  1. In chemistry you study 'freezing point depression' and 'boiling point elevation'.  Deals a lot with bonding but also, even outside of the 'hydrogen bonds' if you have something dissolved in water it will boil at a higher temperature as well as freeze at a lower temperature.  Its why they put salt on roads in the winter when it snows.  If you mix the rain with salt it lowers the freezing point thus making it safer to drive on.

    however, this does not work in very cold places because it doesn't keep it from freezing, it just lowers the temperature of freezing


  2. anti freeze forms hydrogen bonds (strong intermolecular forces) with the water molecules. so the water molecules requires more energy to break away from one another and turn into a gas. thus the temperature at which water boils is higher
