  1. NHRA is over-reacting. They've been running over 300 mph on these tracks for several years now, and now all of the sudden the tracks are too short? Make the shutdown areas longer and incline the sand box like a truck escape ramp, or make it deeper and longer. If so many drivers and crews considered this a problem before now, as they are all saying, why didn't they ever mention it on camera if it was supposedly, "Falling on deaf ears with officials?" It seems like everyone is jumping on the P.R. band wagon.

  2. Don't know about this one.. A quarter mile is a quarter mile.

Like the first guy answered.. NHRA has to run these races at tracks that are qualified to handle them..

  3. I think it is a knee-jerk reaction to what happened to Scott. I'm all for driver safety, but this seems akin to a publicity stunt. If they want real results, then they should apply real pressure were it is needed. Mandating longer run-offs for all NHRA tracks would be one heck of a start. And the tracks that don't comply, loss their sanctioning.

  4. i think it's a great idea to make the sport safer for the fuel drivers.  i don't think it's a knee-jerk reaction.  i believe the idea of shutting down early has been on drivers minds long before scott's tragedy.  look at all of cruz pedregon's huge engine failures, scott's testing accident in arizona, john's accident last year, and ashley's explosion just to name a few.  this has been coming for a LONG time.  they're gonna be going 20-30mph slower at the end of the track and have an extra 320 feet to slow down.  you'll see less engine failures as well.  the benefits of shutting down at 1000 feet are tenfold!

they had to do SOMETHING.  NHRA already controls speeds by limiting how many RPM's they can turn these motors, so crew chiefs are trying to get the most out of these motors by running it up real close to the limiter.  when the motor bounces off the limiter, it causes all kinds of issues,  and many times results in engine failure.  this kind of failure is capable of causing the kind of destruction scott experienced on his tragic pass.

  5. It is very good for the funny car and top fuel drivers because they go so fast and if they can't brake or a wreck they have more time to slow down and they won't have as bad injuries. Scott Kaletta (however you spell his name) would be very proud!

however the other categories such as Pro Stock, and Pro Stock Motorcycle don't go as fast and haven't has as many deaths in terrible crashes. I think everyone is relived when this rule was approached and accepted. Everyone will be more confident and most importantly it will be SAFER!
