I've heard bamboo lowers your energy cooling costs by a significant amount. Does anyone have any information/explanation why?

  1. Bamboo is a good insulator, If you use it as a cladding, then you will lose less head through walls. looks a bit sixties james bond tho'

  2. Bamboo is one of the most useful plants in existence. It grows at a very rapid rate. It's a grass, so it's hollow, but the stems have a high silica content, which makes the wood very strong and resistant to breaking. Bamboo will split, but it doesn't break easily. The stems can become as large as tree trunks. It makes ideal flooring, furniture, scaffolding, cutting boards, etc.

The only problem with it is that if there is a high demand for it people will cut down rain forest to grow it, and there are other useful trees out there. They will also plant it on agricultural land, which is not a good policy for producing enough cheap food. But here in the States we could grow enormous amounts of it.
